busy work life

i joined the busy work life that i never understand that i never wanted to be one
yet bcoz of better offer in not only $ but also better perspect i joined

less than 2 months
i worked 2 saturdays, weekdays till 10pm once, till 9.30pm once, till 8pm twice or three times
and even i can leave at 5pm (8 hrs work) i usually leave at near 7pm (work 10hrs) exclusive 1hr lunch.. no dinner of course

sigh.. started to feel sian
not only bcoz work late
but it seem like it never end
and the mental part is sad
keep triggering btw "should i work late to finish it? or i can't finish" and "i want to go back home"
work can never be finished.. yet go home back earlier might only soak myself in drama
so how?
work or life?
responsibility to company or to myself?
we seem to be educated to be more responsible to work
otherwise why i feel guilty in not working late
if work can't be finished within 8hrs after i put in as much afford as possible, work schedule should be prolonged right?
instead of absorbing my unpaid overtime work
i dunno.. i really don't.. coz everyone seem 'fine' to work more to company

sian..
i miss my ex colleagues and my life..
yet.. i really don't want to go back the previous unsecured work
nothing is perfect
we just hope tmr will be better

true story

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousand of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.  The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother rushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition. No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. Two days before his playing in the subway, tickets for Joshua Bell's performance at a theater in Boston were sold out and the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context? One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing ???...

Fly me to the moon
Let me play amoung the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On jupiter and mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me

Fill my heart with song and
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

Fill my heart with song and
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words
In other words, I love you

Trust and Respect

came across below info thro "the executive Aug" which my boss rent us..
=) great write up~

"TRUST AND RESPECT

Although it is a fairly simple concept, many employers overlook the significance that many employees attach to it. Showing respect to your staff means treating them like adults and trusting them to do their best for the company. You need to be objective and fair at all times, and be receptive to both their strengths as well as shortcoming. It also means allowing room for failure and mistakes, and believing that they will improve.

Many employers are often quick to blame and pass judgement, disregarding their staff's opinions and explanations. Respect that people have limitations and work with them on overcoming the obstacles, rather than impose your values and personal biasness upon them. When employees feel respected, not only will they feel more empowered, they are also more likely to accord the same respect (if not more) to you; and would be more tolerant and forgiving your mistakes too."

let your heart lead you wherever you go

The world is where your heart is.
Nothing is impossible for a willing heart.
Do as you would be done by.
Whatever you do, do with all your might.
Keep your feet on the ground, but let your heart soar as high as it will.
When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.
Honesty is the best policy.
The best hearts are always the bravest.
Life isn't about finding yourself. LIfe is about creating yourself.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the hearts.
A kind heart is a fountain of gladness, making everything in its vicnity freshen into smiles.
Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.

don't work so hard

WORKER DEAD AT DESK FOR 5 DAYS

New York Times 1-22-03
Bosses of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no one noticed
that one of their employees had been sitting dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS before anyone asked if he was feeling okay. George Turklebaum, 51, who had been employed as a proof-reader at a New York firm for 30 years, had a heart attack in the open-plan office he shared with 23 other workers.

He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday
morning when an office cleaner asked why he was still working during the weekend. His boss Elliot Wachiaski said: "George was always the first guy in each morning and the last to leave at night, so no one found it unusual that he was in the same position all that time and didn't say anything.

He was always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself." A post
mortem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. Ironically, George was proofreading manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died. You may want to give your co-workers a nudge occasionally.

*Moral of the story: Don't work too hard. Nobody notices anyway.
